2012 Olympics Surges Demand For Holiday Homes

Goodbye 2011, but will you be missed? Hello 2012, come on in! Aside from the forecasted end of creation, the international community won’t have much to look forward to in 2012. Well, if the end of days is the only thing you’re looking forward to, that’s probably still a major draw. But there’ll be a lot of things to keep your attention if you’re British. 2012 is a major milestone year for several British phenomenons. It was 50 years ago that the first James Bond movie was released, and it is 100 years since the sinking of the Titanic. Queen Elizabeth II has reigned now for 60 years, leading to Jubilee celebrations this year.

And you can bet that this isn’t all. 2012 has been the Olympic year that all Britons have been anticipating for about a decade. Finally here, the year raises the in no way insignificant issue of how on earth to actually hold such an event. The British have to rise to the challenge of the year ahead, and get their island ready: even people in tourism, who have to get their Schofields holiday let insurance in order, so increased tourist numbers can be exploited. Associated with congestion, London has an impressive, historically significant transport network, that will still be clogged when the games hit. Some of the changes have been criticised, and prices for events and locations themselves have been denounced as ‘mind boggling’. Money will be made enthusiastically by some councils: take Weymouth, which is boosting park and ride prices by 300%.

One major issue is surely the accommodation needed for people, domestic and otherwise, attending the games. Athletes alone will account for 17,000 extra heads at the games (from 205 countries). About 500,000 spectators many tourists will be expected. Add to these numbers 63,000 helpers and organisers and 20,000 journalists. In Dorset, accommodation is sufficiently scarce that budget has been provided for the rental of holiday homes and 2012 self catering cottage insurance.

This is all bad news if you are the kind of person who really just wants to get away from the Olympics. However, if you own a holiday home and are thinking a way of profiting, there’s money in holiday homes. So organise your overseas property insurance at the nearest opportunity.
